1. What is a Guardian Dog Program?
A guardian dog program involves us placing a select puppy with a qualified family. The dog lives with the family as a beloved pet for life, while we retain breeding rights for a specified number of litters or time period. Once the dog’s breeding career is over, full ownership transfers to the guardian family.
2. Why do we use guardian programs?
It allows dogs to be raised in loving home environments while maintaining quality breeding lines.
3. What are the responsibilities of the guardian family?
Provide everyday care: feeding, grooming, training, exercise, and routine vet visits (shots, preventive care).
Keep the dog in a safe, loving home
Transport the dog for breeding or health-related visits as outlined in the contract.
4. What do we take care of?
Care and cost of dog while in our home (during mating and whelping)
Breeding expenses (progesterone tests, mating, pregnancy monitoring)
Spaying or neutering and transfer of ownership upon retirement
Payment to family after each litter of puppies to help cover cost of dog.
